The Chilean Lake District is a beautiful area to kick back and enjoy nature. Perfectly coned volcanoes, stunning waterfalls and beautiful lakes. Historic European influenced towns and villages with pretty wooden churches and busy port towns where you’ll taste the best the Pacific Ocean has to offer. For those who want to be more active there’s climbing, rafting and riding.

Day 4

You’ll be collected from your  hotel by your guide and driver, load the minibus and drive for three hours crossing the Valdivian forest along the Reloncaví estuary. Arrive to the Tagua - Tagua lake and a ferry crossing will take us to the other side where will drive for another hour or so. Time for great Picnic lunch before crossing the lake. After a short drive we will meet the baqueanos (Chilean horsemen) and the Creole pack horses before reaching the first night stop.  Overnight is in rustic but clean and cosy local houses with wonderful warm hospitality and home made wholesome food.  5 hour road and boat transfer and 2 and a half hours walking or riding.

Day 5

Enjoy this fantastic landscape and cross the river just as the locals do: on public boat while the horses swim alongside. Trek into the Ventisquero’s valley where we will stop for lunch and relax. Afternoon trek to the remote village and the little house where the owners will host. 5 hours walking.

Day 6

By foot we will make our way following the trails of the local Huasos (cowboys) back into the Puelo Valley. Go towards to "la pasarela del Rio Puelo", an important local hanging bridge, crucial for the communication between the local inhabitants and the outside world. This area is particularly spectacular for its huge waterfalls and rapids. We will take a break to enjoy our box lunch. At the end of the day will reach the Las Rocas Lake. After a ten-minute ride in the motorboat, we will land on Bandurrias Island where Sra. Fran awaits us with a delicious dinner. Overnight at the cozy cabin.  6 hours walking.

Day 6 – Day 8

3 nights at Isla las Bandurrias, Lake District, Patagonia on a full board basis

This is a magical place! Isla las Bandurrias is a tiny wooded island in the middle of an isolated Chilean lake. The only access to the island is via a hike or horse ride through remote woods and farmland to the lake shore and then small motor boat for a 10 minute trip to genuine, privileged island isolation.

There are two cabins on the island. One exclusively for guests sleeping from 2 to 6 people. A perfect romantic retreat or for a very special group of friends or family up to 6 people (if up to eight, two can be accommodated in the main cabin)

The guest cabin is rustic, simple homely charm. Large picture windows look over the lake to the mountains. Downstairs there is a kitchen, wood burner and wraparound seating. There is a separate area to sleep and the spotless very civilised bathroom.

Up the little winding staircase is the main bedroom in the loft.

Freshly cooked breads and home grown veggies will be brought to the cabin for you but tea and coffee is always on hand from the cabin’s own kitchen.

Cabin Facilities:  Large picture windows with views to lakes and mountains, privacy, kitchen, bathroom.

Shared Facilities: The Island!

Activities nearby: Hiking, riding, fishing, exploring the remote lakes and woods.

To escape to verdict: This is a very special journey to a rustic yet warm and comfortable hideaway. Completely away from the mainstream with wonderful hosts and can be as private or as sociable as you want.
