Day 1
Flight from Heathrow to Recife via Lisbon
Day 1 – Day 2
2 nights at the Pousada do Amparo,
Olinda, Recife on a bed and breakfast basis
The lovely little historic pousada in the colonial heart of
Olinda. Just 8 rooms in a converted 18th Century town house with a
leafy little garden and plunge pool. The house is a labyrinth with no two rooms
the same but each room is homely and in keeping with lots if traditional
touches. It’s just a short walk to the main square with fabulous views across
the bay to Recife. Staff and very friendly and will do all they can to help.
There’s also a little restaurant overlooking the garden serving excellent food.
A lovely option to really absorb the history of Olinda and a nicer option than
a high rise beach hotel in Recife City. The Pousada has recently converted a
town house opposite in the same style. One house has 10 rooms and the other 8.
Room Facilities:
Safe, air-con, TV, some with
balconies and Jacuzzi.
Shared
Facilities: Pools, garden, lounge,
restaurant.
Activities
nearby: Sightseeing in the historic town,
city beaches of Recife, markets, craft shopping.
To escape to
verdict: A charming option in historic and
characterful Olinda. Lots of original fixtures and fittings giving the Pousada a
lovely homely feel and very friendly staff.

Olinda
An interesting, historic stop before
flying from Recife to the island of Fernando de Noronha. Instead of staying in
high rise Recife stay instead in the old capital of Brazil founded in 1537 and
now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Crumbling colonial mansions mingle with
re-generation along steep cobbled streets with a church at every corner. Olinda
is just a wonderful place to wander around, a photographer's delight where the
morning and evening light can capture the architecture beautifully. Olinda is
also a centre for local artists and handicrafts and you'll be able to pick up
fantastic paintings, woodcarvings and textiles at good prices. An amazing place
to start a trip to Brazil.
Day 3
Fly to Fernando De Noronha &
transfer to Pousada Za Maria.
Day 3 – Day 7
5 nights at the Pousada Ze Maria,
Fernando de Noronha on a bed and breakfast basis

Located in the heart of the island with views of the famous
Pico de Morro rock and the Atlantic Ocean.
Ze Maria is
one of the most established pousada’s on the island and has grown
sympathetically with consideration of all environmental impacts including 850
new native trees and plants within the lovely gardens.
The hotel
restaurant is particularly well known for excellent food and wines.
There are 3 types of accommodation ranging
from large bungalows with 2 rooms, smaller bungalows with Jacuzzi’s and
apartments, all have air conditioning and solar powered showers.
There’s a
lovely pool in the gardens with views to the Ocean. .
Room Facilities: Air con, TV,
mini bar, bungalows have veranda’s and Jacuzzi’s.
Shared
Facilities: Pools, garden, lounge,
restaurant.

Activities
nearby: Enjoying the beautiful island,
beaches, wildlife, diving, snorkelling, boat trips.
To escape to
verdict: A very safe, reliable option in the
centre of the island. It is larger than some of the other pousada’s but English
is spoken widely and the little tour desk is set up to help with buggy hire and
excursions.

Fernando de Noronha
The stunning island paradise, 345 km (an hour's
flight) off the North East Brazilian coast. It is incredible! Declared a
protected Marine Reserve in 1988 visitor numbers are highly restricted and a
daily visitor tax is levied - it's a real privilege to stay on the island. Home
to the majestic Spinner Dolphins that can be seen every morning from a look out
point and also from boat trips. The underwater world is magical, pristine
waters allowing rewarding snorkelling as well as diving. The beaches are out of
this world and deserted. One feels they've completely cut off from the outside
world. Hire a beach buggy to explore, take a boat trip and get yourself up at
dawn to watch the spinner dolphins return home from night feeding. This is a
nature island so don't expect flashy restaurants and fine cuisine. Enjoy a
homely pousada with hammocks on your balcony and pizza!
Day 8
Fly to Salvador &
transfer to Casa Amarelindo.
Day 8 – Day 9
2 nights at Casa do Amarelindo,
Pelourinho, Salvador on a bed and breakfast basis
A new beautiful little boutique hotel in the heart of the historic
colonial Pelourinho with views to the Atlantic Bay.
The hotel is
a converted 16th Century town mansion in a narrow street with
crumbling splendour around it! The exquisite interiors make up for any
scruffiness of the houses in the rest of the street which is full of colourful
character.
There’s an
excellent restaurant that’s light and fresh, wonderful breakfasts served all
day in your room if you desire! Or on your balcony or sunny terrace.
Absolutely divine deck and suntrap with
panoramic views over the bay and a lap pool to cool off.
The hotel is
a fantastic addition to the Penourinho and is a real luxurious gem.
Room
Facilities: Air con, silent ceiling fan, TV, DVD (film library at
reception), CD, internet access, safe, hydro massage bath.
Shared
Facilities: Restaurant, bar, terrace,
pool.
Activities nearby: Wandering
the colourful streets of the historic colonial famous Pelpourinho.
To escape to
verdict: A very exciting find in this vibrant
and exciting, lively district! True luxury, good taste and class.

Salvador
Bright, bustling, hypnotic Salvador!
The third largest city of Brazil and the most vibrant cultural mix of the
country. Here Africa meets South America and it's the best Carnival city on the
continent. Also located on a beautiful coastline and bay with stunning beaches
encircling the metropolis. Historic, colonial Salvador dates back to the 17th
century and the Pelourinho is the place to stay. It's considered one of the
finest examples of colonial architecture in the whole of Latin America and the area
is under constant regeneration; preserving, painting with new chic boutiques,
cafes, bars and stylish small hotels emerging daily. This is the place to just
observe the vibrancy and culture surrounded by magnificent architecture under
the warm sun with views to the blue Atlantic Ocean.
Day 10
Fly to Trancoso &
transfer to Estrela D’Agua
Day 10
- Day
14
5 nights at Pousada Estrela D’Agua,
Trancoso on a bed and breakfast basis

The hotel faces the Beach of Nativos close to the little
trendy, chic town of Trancoso. Estrela D’Agua is a member of Relaix and Chateau
and also the converted Brazilian hotel organisation Roteiros de Charme. The hotel has many advantages of being a
member of these organisations so the service and quality is consistent and
being in large grounds there are spacious pools, cool outside lounging areas
and of course, the beach a stone’s throw away. Lots of restaurants and bars if
you can pull yourself away from the beach and outside hotel massage tent in
Trancoso nearby! Various room categories ranging from large double
suites with all amenities to ocean front deluxe suites.

Room
Facilities: Split Air con, TV, DVD, minibar, safe, balcony with hammock.
Shared
Facilities: Restaurant, bar, gardens,
pool, games room, TV room, beach hut, massage tent.
Activities nearby: Beaches,
chic and funky town of Trancoso.
To escape to
verdict: More of a hotel than an individual
trendy, chic pousada that Trancoso is well known for but a good safe option
right by the beach.

Trancoso
Hip, cool, laid back and trendy coastal village that
has really been given the shabby chic makeover. You may feel like you've walked
into the pages of Vogue Interiors! Sandy lanes lead to coconut tree lined
beaches. Colourful cafes and bars around the central grassy square, this is
true barefoot luxury. A perfect ending to an exceptional trip to Brazil mixing
vibrant culture, magnificent nature and beach chic luxury.
