Day 1

Catch your overnight flight from London Heathrow to Buenos Aires.

Day 2

On arrival you will be met and driven to the Hotel Faena in Puerto Madero, the cosmopolitan, trendy and sophisticated dockland area of the city.

Day 2 – Day 4

3 nights at the Faena on a bed and breakfast basis (use of pool, gym and spa)

The Faena is an experience! It is almost beyond a hotel. Everyone should stay at the Faena once!  The Faena is a rock star and is the preferred choice of residence for visiting dignitaries from the high kings of the music industry.  The Faena is owned by friend of the stars Alan Faena and designed by the renowned   Phillipe Starck.   Yet one will not feel out of place as the Faena is very relaxed with friendly and attentive unaffected real staff in an informal atmosphere. Located in trendy Puerto Madero (The Buenos Aires regenerated Docklands) there is lots of space and the Faena can afford good sized rooms with views to the city skyline and or Rio Plata and beyond to Uruguay on a clear day. Nothing has been omitted in the design and efficiency of the bedrooms, from the touch of a bedside button the curtains will retract and the Bose sound system will kick in. A room that will be difficult to leave!

108 rooms with either city or river view the best views from the third floor upwards which we will always try to reserve.

Suite Facilities:  Air conditioner, fan, TV DVD Bose sound system, frigeobar, safe, hairdryer, wi-fi.

Activities nearby: Restaurants, bars, boutique shopping, parks, dockside walking.

To escape to verdict: Faena has the wow factor and we love it for it’s brashness, confidence and style but coupled with Faena’s informal and friendly atmosphere and staff. The hotel offers guests every aspect of comfort and attention in a great airy location.

What to see and do in Buenos Aires:

There is so much to encounter in one of the most vibrant and sassy cities in the world. Take a stroll down to Recoleta, the stylish and glitzy central suburb and watch spontaneous lunchtime tango dancers in the pretty public gardens, contemplate in the atmospheric Cemetery of the Recoleta where Eva Peron is buried and mourners still loyally pass by and lay their respects. Hang out in Plaza San Martin with views over to trendy Puerto Madero before heading over to gritty and characterful San Telmo lined with antique shops, the best coffee shops and the Sunday market is a MUST, closed to traffic and set up with local artists wares and street performers. Palermo is the ultra trendy leafy suburb with designer boutiques, art galleries and bars, the place to be seen in and hang out in street cafes to people watch. La Boca for the famous football club and home of Maradona. Buenos Aires NEVER disappoints.

Day 5

You’ll be driven to the domestic airport for your flight south to San Carlos de Bariloche in the heart of the Argentine Lake District. Pick up hire car on arrival and drive to the Hotel El Casco.

Day 5 – Day 7

3 nights at the Hotel El Casco on a bed and breakfast basis

Hotel El Casco is setting new standards in Bariloche’s hotel scene. Owned by a famous Argentinian artist all 33 rooms and public areas are decorated with works of art, this adds additional colour and interest to an already 5 star boutique hotel.Situated on the Nuhual Huapi lake shore all the rooms front onto the wonderful views over the water and the lakes beyond.  The staff are incredibly attentive and there are several exclusive touches such as a motor boat and a ski lounge on the slopes at Cerro Catedral for the exclusive use of guests. Bariloche is a wonderful place to soak up the beautiful vistas of Patagonia and tackle a wide range of activities if one feels inclined and Hotel Casco is one of the best places to stay if you want to do this in style. 33 rooms, lake views, 20 minutes by road from Bariloche town centre, 15 minutes from Cerro Catedral ski slopes.

Activities nearby: Scenic drives, cruises, kayaks, sailing, riding, mountain biking, paragliding, golf, ski-ing in winter.

Suite Facilities:  Air conditioner, TV & DVD player, CD player, mini-bar, safe, hairdryer, pillow menu, lake views.

To escape to verdict: One cannot criticise anything about this hotel. The views are breathtaking, the accommodation spacious and stylish and the service is polished. A top property that would rival any 5 star city hotel.

Highlights of the Lake District

You’ll have complete freedom and flexibility to explore with your own hire car which is by far the best way to see what this beautiful region has to offer. Roads are excellent and there are various scenic drives which take in spectacular lake and mountain views with pretty towns and villages to stop at for lunch and afternoon tea. Bariloche is the centre for outdoor activities and every pursuit can be arranged from riding, cycling, climbing, trekking, fishing, golf, paragliding and in Winter Bariloche is buzzing as one of the main ski centres of Argentina.

Day 8

Drive back to the airport and drop your car back in time for the flight to El Calafate. On arrival collect your hire car and drive to Eolo.

Day 8 - Day 10

3 nights at Eolo on a fully inclusive basis

A wonderfully designed new lodge in a high position with incredible open views to Lago Argentino, the surrounding mountains and with good visibility the peaks of the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.

The design of the lodge has been very well thought out to take advantage of the sweeping vistas of Patagonia with large picture windows with completely unobstructed views from every bedroom, the corner suites having two windows for even more spectacular views. As the lodge is so isolated there is also no worry of anybody seeing you in your room and you can have the curtains wide open at night to view the incredible Patagonian night sky with the complete absence of light pollution.

The lodge is very spacious but only 11 rooms/suites, bedrooms are large and very comfortable with subtle Patagonian rustic colours. Lovely bathrooms with large bath and wonderful shower rose to drench yourself under after a day hiking on the glacier. Staff are the friendliest, knowledgeable and attentive that one could ever meet and the attention to detail has been carefully considered, choice of tea on arrival served in bone china cups and saucers in the lounge with breathtaking views over the Patagonian steppe. The lodge is also well positioned for shorter access to Perito Moreno Glacier and about half an hour out of Calafate should you wish to visit for other restaurants or shopping.

Activities nearby: Perito Moreno Glacier, lake cruise through the icebergs, ice trekking, riding, hiking.

Room Facilities:  Uninterrupted private view, central heating, armchairs

To escape to verdict: Eolo is perfect for a stay in Patagonia in every way. Design, location, service, comfort and attention to detail. If one is coming this far south it is worth completing your stay and experience at Eolo – highly recommended.

Activities around the Calafate region:

The Perito Moreno Glacier is the main attraction and easy to see why. The immense blue glacier is one of the only glaciers advancing and if you’re lucky enough will be able to experience the ice carving and spectacular crashing as one of the massive tongues of ice fall into the lake, the sound is like a thunder bolt. Ice hiking can be arranged with experienced guides and is a great way to get up close and personal to this incredible natural structure. A cruise through the icebergs on Lago Argentino is a wonderful trip where several more glaciers can be observed. If you’ve time the best way to experience the vastness of Patagonia is by horseback and this is readily available if staying on one of the estancias and out of town.

Day 11

Drop your car back at the airport for the flight back to Buenos Aires. Met and driven to the Hotel Legado Mitico.

1 night at Legado Mitico on a bed and breakfast basis

Legado Mitico is one of the latest boutique hotels to emerge in Buenos Aires trendy Palermo district and offers many improvements on some of it’s older rivals. Situated on a quiet cobbled street a short walk from a selection of bars, restaurants and shops this is a stylish slick small hotel with some wonderful design touches.

The common areas include a leafy courtyard, lounge, library and roof terrace with Jacuzzi. All are perfect to relax with a glass of wine and a good book. The bedrooms are spacious and modern with sleek lines and dark colours.

11 rooms themed on historic Argentine personalities from Che Guevara and Eva Peron to General Belgrano.

Suite Facilities:  Air conditioner, fan, TV, DVD, CD player, frigeobar, wi-fi, safe, hairdryer.

Activities nearby: Restaurants, bars, boutique shopping, underground rail to rest of Buenos Aires sites.

To escape to verdict: As with other old Buenos Aires converted townhouses the Legado Mitico’s high ceilings and wooden floors accentuate noise a little – footsteps and doors closing but this is a quality hotel with class and style and is a great place to hang out in a great suburb.
