Day 2
On arrival you will be met and driven to Hotel
1551 Palermo.
Day 2 – Day 4
3 Nights at 1551 Palermo, Buenos
Aires on a bed and breakfast basis
1551 Palermo is a hidden treasure in the popular Palermo
district of Buenos Aires. Arriving at
the front door one would be excused for thinking you have been taken to a building
site rather than one of the most stylish guest houses in the city. Through the gates one enters a tranquil leafy
garden with inviting pool – a real oasis.
Choosing between the 3 suites is a tricky decision. All are light and airy with high ceilings and
lots of space. The Doors suite on the
ground floor at the front of the house has a huge lounge with beautiful wooden
floors and quirky bathroom. The Garden Suite, on it’s own at the end of
the pool, away from the house is romantically decorated with drapes and
seductive lighting, Jacuzzi bath. The
large Master Suite has floor to ceiling
windows to the garden and a private terrace, lots of floor space, Jacuzzi bath
and double shower.

Also
two superior apartments with kitchenette for those who want to be more
independent or with families, a two bedroomed apartment ideal for friends and a
twin room in the loft, again good for friends sharing. 1551
is at the forefront of the Buenos Aires boutique hotel revolution.
3 Suites, 4 rooms. Lounge,
internet access, breakfast room, garden, pool, spa (Tai Massage, Personal
Trainer). Pool bar opening in December.
Suite Facilities:
Air conditioner, fan, TV, CD player,
frigeobar, safe, hairdryer.
Activities nearby: Restaurants,
bars, boutique shopping, underground rail to rest of Buenos Aires sites.
To escape to verdict: 1551 is
definitely quirky but offers space, privacy and loads of cool touches without
the pretence or stuffiness of some of Palermo’s boutique hotels. A to escape to favourite.

What to see
and do in Buenos Aires:
There is so much to encounter
in one of the most vibrant and sassy cities in the world. Take a stroll down to
Recoleta, the stylish and glitzy central suburb and watch spontaneous
lunchtime tango dancers in the pretty public gardens, contemplate in the
atmospheric Cemetery of the Recoleta where Eva Peron is buried and mourners
still loyally pass by and lay their respects. Hang out in Plaza San Martin with
views over to trendy Puerto Madero
before heading over to gritty and characterful San Telmo lined with antique shops, the best coffee shops and the
Sunday market is a MUST, closed to traffic and set up with local artists wares
and street performers. Palermo is
the ultra trendy leafy suburb with designer boutiques, art galleries and bars,
the place to be seen in and hang out in street cafes to people watch. La Boca for the famous football club
and home of Maradona. Buenos Aires NEVER disappoints.
Day 5
You’ll be driven to the domestic airport for the
flight south to Bariloche. Collect hire car.
Day 5 - Day
7
Design Suites, Bariloche on a bed and
breakfast basis
Just 2.5km from Bariloche Town Centre on the Nuhual Huapi
lake side road Design Suites is built on a steep slope allowing views over the
lake. There are 4 separate apartment blocks with 3 floors containing light airy
and spacious rooms with good facilities.
The Design Suites concept centres around their clubhouse
which again is light and airy with floor
to ceiling windows, sociable seating areas, bar and restaurant. Lots of natural
touches in the furnishings and use of wood, stone and plants which gives a very
warm feeling and congenial atmosphere.
If you haven’t a car it’s possible to walk into town
although the road is quite busy or take the hotel shuttle bus. It’s about 20-25
minutes to the ski slopes at Cerro Catedral.
A great place to socialise and relax in very pleasant
surroundings. The gardens are filled with lavender and there are beautiful
cedars which give wonderful aromatic scents. A very pleasant place to
stay.
Room Facilities:
TV, music system, fridgobar, coffee
maker, good range of snacks, room service.
Shared Facilities: Pool, gym,
spa, gardens, clubroom, internet, visitor information booth.
Activities nearby: Scenic
drives, cruises, kayaks, sailing, riding, mountain biking, paragliding, golf,
skiing in winter
To escape to verdict: A very light
and airy, contemporary and pleasant place to stay with good facilities close to
Bariloche. Not too good if you’re not good on your feet as the hotel is built
on a slope and there are quite a few steps to negotiate, however there is a
courtesy bus if you do need a lift down to the clubhouse.

You’ll have complete
freedom and flexibility to explore with your own hire car which is by far the
best way to see what this beautiful region has to offer. Roads are excellent
and there are various scenic drives which take in spectacular lake and mountain
views with pretty towns and villages to stop at for lunch and afternoon tea.
Bariloche is the centre for outdoor activities and every pursuit can be
arranged from riding, cycling, climbing, trekking, fishing, golf, paragliding
and in Winter Bariloche is buzzing as one of the main ski centres of Argentina.
Day 8
Today is the full day traverse
between the Argentine and Chilean lake district. It’s a long day but beautiful
(if the weather is sunny!). It’s a combination of boat across Lake Nuhual
Huapi, then road through dense forest and through no man’s land between the
Argentine and Chilean frontier. After border formalities take a mysterious
passage across lago Frias to the isolated hotel at Peulla for lunch before the
final leg of the trip on water across Lago Todos los Santos and then coach to
Puerto Varas. It’s one of the ‘to do’ routes in South America but is very
popular, touristy and organised! But saying that it’s still a wonderful scenic
experience. You’ll be dropped at your hotel early evening.
Day 8 - Day
10
3 Nights at Hotel Puelche, Puerto Varas, Chilean lake
District on a Bed & Breakfast basis
The Hotel Puelche is a new modern 21 room hotel in an
elevated position in the small, bustling town of Puerto Varas with views over
Lago Llanquihue. Purpose built in a ski chalet style with large picture windows
and plenty of natural wood and warm furnishings.
A perfect hotel for being
more independent and enjoying the restaurants of Puerto Varas close by and
walking along the lakeshore at sunset with the beautiful backdrop of Osorno
Volcano. Rooms are very well appointed with high speed internet, TV, and
frigobar.

Relaxing lounge area with open fires, handy restaurant and
spa with sauna and massage available.
Room Facilities:
TV, internet, fridgobar.
Activities nearby: Scenic
lakeshore and volcanic drives, waterfalls, hiking, kayaking, excellent fish and
craft markets in Puerto Montt.
To escape to verdict: An excellent
choice for being more independent in the Chilean Lakes. Comfortable and clued
up new hotel.

The Chilean Lake District is a beautiful area to kick back and
enjoy nature. Perfectly coned volcanoes, stunning waterfalls and beautiful
lakes. Historic European influenced towns and villages with pretty wooden
churches and busy port towns where you’ll taste the best the Pacific Ocean has
to offer. For those who want to be more active there’s climbing, rafting and
riding.
Day 11
Drop the
car at the airport and fly to Santiago. Collect hire car and drive to
Zapallar
Day 11 - Day
14
4 Nights at Hotel Isla Seca, Zapallar, on a bed &
breakfast basis
It’s a modern hotel and everything has been thought of to
make your stay as comfortable as possible. Large bedrooms with all mod cons,
typical hotel feel and style bar and restaurant.
Lovely gardens, terraces and pool.
It’s
a little further to travel than Valparaiso or the wine hotels in the vineyards
but it’s the only hotel in a quiet resort on the Pacific Ocean with access to
the beach and pure sea breezes. Particular attention to service.
Room Facilities:
TV, safe, mini bar, some with sea
view balconies.
Activities nearby: Beaches,
golf course, tennis, walks.
To escape to verdict: The only
hotel in the area and it’s a bit bigger with 40 rooms but perfect as a small
coastal resort option.

a sneak preview and more images, please click here...
This is the perfect time
to kick back and enjoy the Pacific Ocean coast. Zapallar is a small exclusive coastal town frequented by the rich
and fashionable of Santiago. Beautiful coastal scenery and pretty beach
surrounded by woodland. Good choice of restaurants along the leafy streets.
